Does your closet seem way too full of your everyday clothes to possibly make room for storage items? Well, don’t think that you need to give up just yet. Most people do not have their closets arranged in the most efficient manner. There are many ways to save space in your closet without spending a lot of money on a pricey closet organization system. In fact, many of those closet systems simply spread things out causing them to take up even more precious space than before. Use these tips to figure out what will work best for you and your closet.
1) The quickest and easiest way to make some space is to hang your clothing from shortest items to longest items on the bar. The shorter items will leave a large empty space below them, making room for storage containers, a small dresser, cabinets, shelves, a shoe rack, or a laundry basket. This is a good enough quick fix for many people to fit their out of season wardrobe into the closet when they don’t have time for a major overhaul.
2) Another thing you can do is to look around in your closet and see which spaces are empty. Most people have a few feet of wasted space above that top shelf up near the ceiling. Moving shelves and bars up a little higher helps to make better use of the space above while creating space below. Sometimes you can move the hanging bar up high enough to add an additional bar below for pants, skirts and shorts. Not only does this help to keep things separated, but it also instantly doubles your hanging space all for around $10.
3) Another way to make use of extra space is to see how much room is being wasted on the sides and front walls of your closet. If you have a top shelf in your closet, does it go all the way around to the front? If not, you may be able to add a shelf extension on the sides of the closet allowing you to put extra items up high. You may also be able to line the sides of the closet with shelves that can hold baskets, bins and buckets.
4) Another really easy way to make space is to use space saving clothes hangers that cascade from each other and fit flat together. Specialty
hangers that hold ties, belts, hats, lingerie and more can eliminate the need for drawers, baskets, bins, and shelves. Use your hangers wisely and you can double or triple the space in your closet for very little money.
